On December 5, 2001, YPEK hosted a Networking Reception with the Hutton School of Business at the University of the Cumberlands. The reception included a presentation by Dr. Colegrove. The presentation discussed lessons from a recent Harvard series on leadership as well as Dr. Colegrove’s experiences in the military. Dr. Colegrove built off these core leadership principles to showcase how to apply them to real-world business settings.

Young Professionals of East Kentucky (YPEK) hosted its second annual Awards Dinner on November 18, 2011, on the campus of Union College in Barbourville. Congratulations to our recipents: Brad Kincaid, Young Entrepreneur of the Year; Clayton Case, Young Professional in the Arts; Represenative Sara Beth Gregory, Young Civic Leader of the Year; and Josh Ball, Young Professional of the Year. Special Thanks to special guest Nathan Mick, Economic Development Director of Garrard County, and to our keynote speaker Jerry Rickett, President and CEO of Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation.

On August 25, 2011, YPEK hosted a networking event in Salyersville.

On September 9, 2010, YPEK hosted three networking events in London, Hazard, and Prestonsburg.

On August 14, 2010, YPEK recognized three young professionals for their leadership and dedication to the region at YPEK’s first awards dinner in Paintsville. Mandy Stumbo of Floyd County was named Young Professional of Year; Dennis Prater of Magoffin County was named Young Civic Leader of Year and Sarah Burton of Wayne County was named Young Entrepreneur of Year. In addition to the awards ceremony, a keynote address was delivered by WYMT-TV’s Neil Middleton. Ticket sales from the event were donated to regional charities, which include: Chad’s Hope, a drug treatment facility in Manchester; Highland’s Autism Center; and the Christian Appalachian Project.

YPEK hosted three successful Regional Networking on July 15, 2010 in Middlesboro, Paintsville and Somerset. At these events, dozens of young professionals networked, exchanged business cards, and collaborated on business and civic initiatives. Guest speakers included: Dr. Craig J. Lenz, Senior Associate Dean of LMU-DCOM; Denny Dorton, President of Citizens National Bank; and Kim Huston, Economic Developer and Author.

Young Professionals of East Kentucky (YPEK) conducted three concurrent sessions of the East Kentucky Leadership Conference on April 23, 2010 in Ashland. The concurrent sessions, titled “Young Professionals Transforming Appalachia Through YPEK” gave attendees the opportunity to help shape the dialogue on outcomes of the YPEK Summit which occurred on April 1st in Manchester.

Young Professionals of East Kentucky (YPEK) hosted a YPEK Summit on April 1, 2010 at the EKU Campus in Manchester. The Summit focused on forming issue-based committees. Through the committees, YPEK adopted projects to benefit the region in the following areas: education, energy and environment, economic development, healthcare, technology, and civic involvement.

In the Spring of 2010, YPEK partnered with the Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative to promote and encourage planting more trees on active and abandoned coal mined lands.

On February 1, 2010, YPEK hosted a forum in Hazard with guest speakers Congressman Hal Rogers and former Governor Paul Patton. Approximately 100 individuals from across twenty counties came together at the First Federal Center. Special thanks is given to our guest speakers and our sponsors: Lead Sponsor Eastern Kentucky University and Co-Sponsor Highlands Regional Medical Center. Three Regional Networking Events where held in Corbin, Whitesburg, and Pikeville on December 10, 2009. Guest speakers included State Senator Brandon Smith, Center for Rural Development President Lonnie Lawson, and Pike County Magistrate Chris Harris.

YPEK partnered with the Christian Appalachian Project on November 24, 2009, to provide volunteer assitance with preparing and serving Thanksgiving meals to the elderly.
On October 29, 2009, YPEK launched Regional Networking Events in London, Hazard, and Prestonsburg.
